This guitar had a little tragedy in its life. Somehow the entire headstock and part of the neck cracked off. someone gave it to me and I figured I'd give it a shot and try to repair it. Its a slow process but here's some of it.


I removed the frets to get closer to the wood, I thought I was going to save them but I'll start new:

the end result. A lot of wood came off with it but I'm shortening this neck with a scarf joint pretty far down.

In the next post I hope to have a new fretboard ready.

What about the metal rod in the center of the neck? Will you be able to work around it? I've never taken a guitar apart, heck I dont even play guitar, but that looks like its going to be a very complicated fix. good luck

The fret holder isnt my design, I saw it somewhere. Its perfect for keeping them handy and organized.
The truss rod in the middle of the neck has to come out. I may have to heat it up because I think it was glued in. I took a break from this project but I'll be starting it soon.

Ok, I started it sooner than I thought I would. I removed the truss rod which was glued in at the top end from a previous repair. Thebn I flattened the neck to clean it up. I made a sharp angle on the back of the neck and a matching one on a piece of niece mahogany that I really would rather have used for something else. I glued and clamped it all together. When its all cured I'll make some reference lines on the top of the new piece and the bottom. Then I'll plane to these lines to get the basic angle. I have a lot more work ahead of me, so I'll do it in stages. This may not be the correct way to do this but so far its working.

I would havegiven up already. that guitar would make a nice lamp.

You never know, it just may become a lamp yet!! Well here's the next part, not nice looking at all but still workable. I ordered a fingerboard to make it easier for me. I'll remove more wood once I know how the fingerboard is going to fit. I over calculated and had too much hanging over. Better too much than too little. Thats Mr. Wints spokeshave in the pic. I cant find mine.
